"CREATING SPACE FOR COMMUNITY, HOPE AND GROWTH AT THE THEA BOWMAN CENTER!"
Our mission, “We listen to the people of Mt. Pleasant, learn, and do what they want and need,” remains our North Star! The atmosphere at the Center enhances everyone’s sense of self. When you’re feeling good about yourself, you’re confident and happy. Affirmation provides the fuel for life! We and our partners serve all who come through the door:
• Seniors, many who are raising grandchildren, gather for social and educational meetings. They connect with in-home healthcare, transportation, assistance with housing issues, and computer literacy classes that enable them to access email, internet information, and telehealth visits.
• Our Workforce Development Support Program has hosted job fairs, connecting residents to jobs they never thought they’d get and salaries they didn’t anticipate.
• Summer Camp attendees (K-8 th grade), went on nine field trips, including to the Cleveland Public Library when the Superman film was being shot on the street in front of it! A camp counselor, his position funded by Youth Opportunities Unlimited, said, “This is the best place I’ve ever worked! I met my family here!”
• Our Food Pantry provides food for whoever needs it: 7800 residents a year. Our five partner churches provide delicious hot lunches for everyone!
• When severe storms hit in August, the community lost power but we didn’t. Residents found a safe haven at the Center to gather, charge phones, and store insulin in the refrigerators.
We can do this because of the support of individuals, families, companies, foundations,
churches, and you!!
